North Australian Insurance Brokers (NAIB) is a Northern Territory owned and operated business with a history dating back to 1988 when the company was first founded. Today NAIB is a corporate authorised representative of the Master Builders Association owned Master Builders Insurance Brokers Pty Ltd (MBIB).
MBIB provide Insurance Broking and Risk Management Services to the Building and Construction Industry and have operated in Australia for almost 25 years, currently employing 58 people.
NAIB has a unique offering with a small but dedicated and highly skilled team of service professionals. Our expertise, combined with MBIB and the greater Master Builders Association movement, provides for a significant depth of resources with respect to insurance and risk advice for companies operating in a wide variety of industries.

Meet the Team
Owner & Managing Director: Karl Tester
Work History:
Karl Tester has worked in the insurance industry within the Northern Territory for over 30 years. Commencing his career in 1987, Karl was quickly promoted through the ranks to eventually become the Northern Territory State Executive of a global insurance broking company.
As a Senior Client Service Executive and State Manager, Karl has handled some of the biggest private insurance programs arranged in the Northern Territory and brings a tremendous amount of expertise and technical skill to North Australian Insurance Brokers.
Qualifications:
- Fellow and Certified Insurance Professional, Australian New Zealand Institute; of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF Fellow CIP);
- Diploma of Insurance Services (Insurance Broking);
- NIBA Qualified Practicing Insurance Broker and Fellow (QPIB & Fellow);
- In 1998 Karl won the prestigious National Warren Tickle Trophy Award for outstanding performance judged on three criteria, i.e. (1) Professional Standing, (2) Academic Qualifications and (3) Underwriter and Client References.
MBIB Chief Executive Officer: Paul Ayton
Paul joined MBIB in May 2023 following an extensive career including a number of General Manager and Managing Director roles in both insurance broking and underwriting. In the lead up to joining MBIB, Paul was working as a business consultant, assisting insurance businesses with strategy development, business planning, leadership and culture. Paul has been heavily involved in a number of education and sporting committees and councils within his local community.
Paul brings to MBIB his experience in coaching and leading teams through periods of change and growth, and a passion for transforming businesses and achieving ambitious company goals. Paul is Tier 1 Broking qualified and holds a Degree in Banking and Finance as well as a Diploma in Marketing. Paul has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) training course.
